Dear Friends,
Every once in a while this monthly letter is an opportunity to let everyone know about changes in the life of the Church in Capel or what is happening that might be different or special to this particular month or liturgical season. I want this month to spend a few moments highlighting two or three important areas of our church and to draw your attention to the services that are coming up
First of all it is wonderful to report that we have a choir that is growing, especially in the form of young choristers, although we would loved to see some boys join the girls in the choir stalls!! It is so good to have the youngsters as they bring a freshness to our worship and to our music. If you know of any young people, or adults for that matter, who would like to sing in our choir do put them in touch with me or with our curate, Revd Sue Egerton. Alternatively they can just turn up on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm for choir practice and see what it is like without any obligation or commitment.
It is also lovely to see how our Tiny Tots service is growing with regularly 15 or more little ones. It meets every Thursday at about 2pm, accepting that it is not always easy to get there on time with very young children, and takes the form of songs, a story, music with instruments for the children, prayers and ending with a drink and biscuits and play time for the children and a tea or coffee and chat time for the adults. All children are welcome and they come from about 2 weeks old up to school age. It is a good time for Mums, Grandmothers, Careers and, yes, sometimes Dads and Granddads to meet and get to know each other and share experiences.
We have also arranged for our Kids Club on a Sunday morning to meet in church rather than in the school canteen so that families can worship together in the same place. The children take part in the first part of the service then go into the vestry for their own learning time and rejoin their family and the rest of the congregation at communion time. It is proving to be most popular with families so if you have not been lately with your young ones come and give it a try.
Lastly we are moving towards and into Lent so do think about joining with us during this special time of preparation leading up to Easter. I have been thrilled to see the effort made by so many to come to our services during the recent spell of inclement weather in January so I would encourage you to think seriously about making the effort as well and come and join with us one Sunday to give thanks and praise to our most wonderful God for all his love that spills over us all.
May God bless you and all those you love,
John Baxter
