Dear Friends
I am sitting down to write this month’s letter on the Sunday evening after the Vicarage Fete and I have to confess that I am somewhat exhausted after a long but happy weekend. There is however something quite nice about the tiredness that follows a successful event, or events, rather than the tiredness that comes after things have not gone well or where we have been driven by the simple necessity of having to do something. This last weekend with the Fete and then today’s Patronal festival in church, with all the children joining us for church parade, has definitely been in the former category.
If you were unable to come to the fete then you missed out on a truly great day with good weather, good food and excellent entertainment by the children from Scott-Broadwood Church of England School who performed their country dancing for us and were a treat to watch. Our thanks go to the staff who worked so hard with them. We also were delighted to welcome some of the children from The Weald Church of England School and again must give thanks to those who gave up their time to help the children entertain us.
It would not be right to make any specific “thanks” for all the help given that makes the Fete such a success as I would only forget someone so may I publicly thank everyone who was involved but especially all who came and supported the event and created such a lovely atmosphere. All the money raised goes to our two church schools and the pre school in Capel so well done everyone!!
This month we look forward to celebrating two exciting events. Firstly on the 5th of July at 10.30am in Guildford Cathedral Sue Egerton will be ordained as a Deacon and will then serve as an Ordained Local Minister in our parish. We offer her our congratulations and hold her in our prayers at this most special time for both her and for our Church here in Capel.
Then on the 19th of July Martyn Egerton will be licensed as a ‘Licensed Lay Minister (Reader)’ at a service in the Cathedral and will also be part of the ministry team at St John the Baptist, Capel. We are all looking forward to his participation in the life of our church and the community and hold him in our prayers.
Our church in this village goes from strength to strength so we would loved to see you come and join us as we develop in fellowship. It would be especially good to see some new families come to worship with us. The friendship offered to each other at our fete continues and grows as we meet together in our church, especially as we gather to give thanks to God for all his blessings. Look around you and count just how many they are!!
Yours in Christ
John Baxter
