June 2009

Dear Friends,

It is that time of year again! Yes the Vicarage Fete is coming and just in case you do not have it etched in your diary the date is Saturday the 20th June from 12noon to 4pm. This is not only a fund raising event for our local schools but a real social occasion so we look forward to meeting everyone in our back garden!!

How about going that step further and giving a hand with the setting up on the day or running a stall.  We have a great band of people who really put a huge amount of time and effort in to the event but it would be nice to see some new faces helping as well.  So don’t assume everyone else is offering, pick up the phone and give me a ring.  We also need a plentiful supply of good quality bric a brac, bottles for the, you’ve guessed it, bottle stall, books, raffle prizes, toys, and cakes. You can leave them on the vicarage porch or give us a ring if you want to deliver in person.

Most of all we would love to see you all on the day.  The children from both Scott-Broadwood and The Weald will be entertaining and in addition you never know what sort of fluffy things might be there!! All the monies raised go to help our two Church schools and our pre school so turn out all those surplus items, excess bottles, finished books, and come and enjoy yourselves.

I was slightly surprised to meet someone a few weeks ago who expressed some surprise at the wonderful array of cakes, craft etc we have at our Sunday Church teas. To be honest I thought everyone knew all about them and just how nice it was to come for teas, cakes and to meet friends on a Sunday afternoon, especially if the sun is shining. Well, if you are one of the few who have not sampled Church Teas then check up on the dates, either in the magazine, on the church notice board or on try looking on the Church  website, www.stjohnthebaptistcapel.org.uk . If you go into groups you will see  “dates” highlighted under the Friends of St John the Baptist. Click on it and you will have all the teas information you need for this year.

Have a look at the rest of the website as well.  It is well laid out and very interesting and, I’m told, gets about 15 hits a day!

With summer on its way and warmth and sunshine tempting us all outdoors do take the opportunity to have a look in and around the church.  It’s open during the day from about 8am until about 4pm and you are most welcome for it is, after all, your church.

God bless you and all those you love,
John Baxter
